Robert E. [Bob] Bogle
May 8, 1929 - February 5, 2003


Bob Bogle, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, peacefully passed away at home in Taft on February 5, 2003. He was 73. Bob was born May 8, 1929 in Bakersfield. He moved with his parents, Roscoe and Bunny Bogle, to Taft and attended school in Taft. Bob graduated from Taft High School in 1947, and attended Taft College. Bob's passion was sports. He was an outstanding athlete and lettered in football, baseball, basketball, track and boxing. He played football at Taft College. Bob signed a professional baseball contract with the Cleveland Indians and played for the Bakersfield Indians, a local farm club. Bob earned multiple sales awards selling cars. He worked at Urner's Dodge-Plymouth-DeSoto and Pioneer Chevrolet in Taft, and Three Way Chevrolet in Bakersfield.

Bob played softball in Taft for many years and spoke fondly of his experiences in the ISC World Tournaments. He loved golf, hunting, fishing and horse pack trips to the Golden Trout Wilderness. He served as a sports and outdoor mentor to many friends. He was skilled in leathercraft and gardening. He greeted and talked with everyone that passed by to admire his garden. Bob was a member of the Houchin Blood Bank 5 Gallon Club, Elks, Taft Sportsmen's Club, and the California Deer Hunters Association. Bob actively followed and supported the endeavors of his children and grandchildren. He always made time to visit with friends and family. Bob talked of someday going to the happy hunting grounds, we wish him will, he will be missed.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years; his daughter and her husband; his son and his wife; his 6 grandchildren; his sister; two nephews and their families; two nieces and their families; and a great niece.

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, February 17 at 1:00 p.m. at OT Cook House, 205 N. 10th Street in Taft. Bob loved Taft! In lieu of flowers, please remember the Taft Oil Museum, Taft Youth Sports, Optimal Hospice, or a charity of you choice.
