He immigrated from Germany and applied for citizenship on 19 October 1892 in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. It was at that time that he changed and Americanized his name which had been Johann Heinrich Blohme.
He married Pauline Adelheid Caroline Schureman on 21 November 1888 in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. They became the parents of four sons:

William Blohme, born 10 October 1893
Herman Blohme, born 23 January 1897
John Henry and Pauline owned and ran a billiard parlor, saloon and bowling alley located at 1012 Myrtle Ave., in Brooklyn, NY. They lived in an apartment ("flat") above it and rented out some rooms to boarders. Their four sons were born and raised here and when in their teens worked as "pinsetters" in the bowling alley.
