Floyd Dickson Roberts, the 11th child of Charles Middleton Breaker Roberts and Agnes Jane Hale Roberts, lived in Madisonville, Texas until about age 9 when the family moved to Alvin, Texas in 1895. As a young man, Floyd worked in Galveston, Texas, at several occupations. He was a barge worker, drilled for artesian wells, and worked in the cotton industry at the Galveston Wharves packing and compressing loose cotton with screw jacks to reduce it into bales for shipping. Floyd became a member of a powerful union called the Screwman's Association.

Floyd married Eithel Juanita "Nita" Beckwith Spirielli on July 11, 1928. Nita had 2 children, Lorraine and Antonio Spirielli. There were no children born to Floyd and Nita. Floyd was a resident of Galveston for 47 years and was a widower at the time of his death.
