Jerry Keith Alexander, 59, of Howard, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008 in Milford, Connecticut from a heart attack. He was born October 29, 1948 in Sandusky to the late Prince Albert Alexander and Birdie Lenore Wood Alexander.
Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Ontario Senior High School. He graduated from Control Data Institute and was employed at McDonald Douglas as a manufacturing coordinator in the helicopter division.
He served in the United States Marine Corp. for four years in 1968 and attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5). He trained as a helicopter hydraulic-pneumatic mechanic, trouble shooting and maintained aircraft flight readiness during the Vietnam war. Jerry was honorably discharged in 1972.
Jerry was a creative man with many talents and ideas. He attended various schools, which prepared him to operate as a licensed insurance broker and long-distance trucker. One of his most outstanding accomplishments was the independent self-contracting and building of his and Candace's own beautiful home in Howard.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Candace Bows Alexander of Howard; brother, Carl W. Alexander of Cincinnati; sister, Constance E. Cherry (nee Alexander) of Phoenix, Arizona; nephews, Evan A. Alexander and Gregory Brown; niece, Erin L. Alexander; brother-in-law, Bill Bows; and a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his step-mother, Norma Jean Washington Alexander.
Jerry will remain a loving presence in all our hearts forever.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oberlin. Rev. Anthoni D. McElrath will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery at a later date.
