Asheville - Gary S. Arthur, 62, of Mars Hill, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Asheville, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 5, 1945, in New Castle, Ind. to Elza and Ethel Arthur. Gary moved to the mountains of Western North Carolina in 1994 with his wife, Denise. Over the past decade, Gary became an avid cyclist and could often be seen riding with his friends along the French Broad River. Upon his diagnosis with throat cancer in October 2005, Gary began dedicating his life to make the lives of those around him happier and more fulfilling.
Gary is the beloved husband of Denise Arthur, loving father of Liz Graham of Summerville, S.C., Christa Willey of Fletcher,
Tim Arthur of Chicago, Ill. and Mike Arthur of Aiken, S.C. He is the adored son of Ethel Arthur; brother of Gail Wasson and Rita Johnson, all of New Castle, Ind.
The funeral service for Mr. Arthur will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow in the Station Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to: Charles George VA Medical Center in memory of Gary Arthur, Voluntary Services, General Post Fund 1000, VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
