John Johnston Chittick was the son of William Chittick and his first wife Sydney Johnston.

On October 10, 1859 he married Margaret Marshall Bankier. It is unclear, but he may have married before marrying Margaret.

Together, John and Margaret had sixteen children. Many of the children died in infancy. Some died in their teens mainly of phthsis or tuberculosis. Two lived long enough to marry and have children. Those two were Christina Patrick Chittick and my great grandfather Henry Johnstone Chittick.

John and his wife Margaret immigrated to the United States with their two children and spouses and their six grandchildren. First the son, Henry and son in law, David immigrated. John, Margaret, daughter Christina (Teeny), and grandchildren arrived in the port of New York on December 25, 1905. All but John cleared customs. He was held back for further examination by the medical staff. He was released the next day. Their final destination was Eastland, Tennessee to join the Thom family. The Thoms had been their neighbors and co-workers in Scotland.

John and Margaret lived with their children in Eastland, Tennessee.
Note: Johnston and Johnstone are pronounced the same way as are Sydney/Sidney. I'm using the spelling as it was registered on their birth and/or death certificates. Sometimes the registrar added the e at the end and sometimes he did not.
