Fletcher O. Blaylock, 86, of Topeka went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 25, 2007 at his home. He was born Feb. 4, 1921 in DeSoto, Kansas, the son of Arthur Blaylock Sr. and Helen Blaylock.

He was a resident of Topeka for over 60 years. Mr. Blaylock attended Southwest Topeka Bible Church.

Mr. Blaylock received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas. He served as a yell leader and was a lifelong fan.

Fletcher was a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army, and a World War II veteran and served in a medical unit in Korea. After his service in the Army he and his wife of 63 years, Lucille Blaylock, a former school teacher in Monticello Township, decided to reside in Topeka, Kansas. He started and owned the five Blaylock Drug Stores and worked as a Pharmacist and a businessman until he retired in April 1997.


He was an avid horseman raising and showing Registered American Saddlebred horses. He and his family: children, grandchildren and great grandchildren bred and showed these show horses throughout the U.S. He was past president and treasurer of the American Saddlebred Horse Association.

Survivors include a son, Robert Blaylock and his wife, Pam, and four daughters, Barbara Brosius and her husband, Jerry, Linda Wieser and her husband, Steve, Star Caywood and her husband, Brad, and Cindy Gonzales and her husband, Dennis, 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren,and one on the way.

His wife preceded him in death in November 2004.

Mr. Blaylock will lie in state after 12:00 noon Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends and family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene.

Internment will be in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery.
