Vergie "Pete" Waters, 98, of Shelbina, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 1994, at 1:25 a.m. at the Salt River Nursing Home in Shelbina.
He was born in Shelby County, Mo., on Jan. 31, 1896, the son of Olander Marian and Annie Belle Shaw Waters.
He married Jean Matteson in 1939. She preceded him in death in July 1966. He married Cassie Patrict Kuntz in October 1967 and she survives.
Other survivors include one stepdaughter, Darlene Morlang of Shelbyville; one brother, Vaden Waters of Macon; five step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Waters was a Veteran of World War I. He served in the U.S. Army. After being discharged from the service he spent 64 years in Kansas City, Mo., working in the Railway Mail Service and in construction. He was a member of the Local Carpenters Union # 61 and the VFW of Kansas City. Mr. Waters moved to Shelbina in 1983. He was a member of the Shelbyville Christian Church and was active in the Senior Citizens at Shelbina.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Oct. 3, at 9:00 a.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina with Dr. Albin Covington officiating. Burial was in the Floral Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Mo.
Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 2, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home in Shelbina.
Memorials may be made to the Shelbina Senior Citizens or the donor's choice.
