He was one of the last WW II survivors of the 361st Infantry, 91st Division, H Co., 2nd Battalion. He was also recipient of the Purple Heart; a boxer; defensive tackle for Texas A&M, and worked 50 years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Husband of Rochelle Intrater Stein. He is also survived by children, Gerald Ellis, Carol Joyce Branson, Jeffrey Allen Stein, & Richard Stein; grandchildren, Adam, Michael, & Jessica Branson, Jamie Lee Stoner, and Mathew, Mark, Kevin, & Kerri Stein; great-grandchildren, Mathew & Lexa Branson, and Syndey Joyce Stoner.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jonathon Mark Stein.
Interment followed funeral services conducted Thursday, August 21, 2008.
