Herman served in the Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic at the B-24 Bomber training command at Liberal, Kansas, during World War II and was a veteran.
In 1946, Herman went to work for Central Forwarding Moving and Storage of Waco and retired as branch manager in 1985.
Throughout his life, Herman enjoyed gardening, designing and building trailers, repairing cars, and metal and woodworking in his home shop.
Herman was baptized into the Lutheran faith at St. John's Church in Robinson. He grew up in the Crawford/Ocee area and attended the Old Highland School. He graduated from Waco High School in 1940.
