Died at his home near Pine Bluffs, Wyo. Alpheus Andrews, aged 69 years, 11 months, 14 days. The cause of his death was due to pneumonia and heart trouble. He was one of the pioneers of Iowa and Nebraska, was one of the stalwart soldiers, who, after the Civil War, demonstrated to the world that the soldier of yesterday was the good citizen of today. He was always deeply interested in politica, being active and robust up until the day of his death - voting and working for his party the day before his death.
He made a host of friends wherever he became acquainted, who always remained his friends to the end. He enlisted early in 1861 in Company H, Third Iowa, and served out two enlistments. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Shiloh, and was confined in the Andersonville prison, enduring many hardships and returning home with health impaired but his record as a soldier without a flaw. At his death he was living on his homestead near Pine Bluffs.
He was married February 24, 1870, to Sadie Carter, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, who survives him. Frank, Mabel, and Alden Beard of Pine Bluffs, and Wilbur of Reveille, Nevada, are the children, also a grandchild, Margy Beard, who was a great favorite of his and who deeply feels the loss of a good father and grandfather. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church, conducted by Rev. Newport and Rev. Brunkett. Floral tributes were many and beautiful; interment was made in Pine Bluffs Cemetery.
