He is survived by his wife of 59 years Ella and two daughters, Barbara & husband John Maruska & Judy Kropp all of Taylor. Grandchildren include Kyle Maruska & fianc e Sherri Schwab, April Maruska & Seth Callihan, & J Nae Rathke.
Joe entered the United States Army March 16, 1943 as a combat infantryman. He served in Company L 101 ST Infantry. During his service in World War II he was involved in the Normandy Invasion and served in Italy, France, & Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart, American Theatre Campaign Medal and EAME Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars. Joe was Honorably Discharged January 5, 1946.
Upon his Honorable discharge from the Army Joe was employed with TP&L then the owner and operator of Kropp's Place for many years. After retirement he enjoyed being with his family, friends, working outdoors, and especially working along his son-in-law at Lonesome Dove ranch.
Visitation is Monday, October 26, 2009 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Providence Funeral Home Chapel in Taylor. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Tuesday 10:00am on October 27, 2009 at the Taylor Brethren Church. Burial will follow at the Taylor City Cemetery.
Honoring Joe as Pallbearers are John Maruska, Kyle Maruska, Floyd Kuhl, Larry Sladek, Jerry Balusek, Steven Scruggs, Calvin Janak Jr., and Rick Urbanek. Honorary pallbearers are Calvin Janak Sr. and Vincel Mares.
