From a Fellow Findagrave person For Anne Eliza Bryant Tipton's husband David:

Fold3 Military Service record:

David P. Tipton, a farmer, 44 years of age, enlisted in the Union Army @ Yancey Co., NC. on Jun 11, 1864.

Records here show him both 44 & 45 years of age, and that he died from heart palpitations on Oct 11, 1864, at Bull's Gap (Hawkins), Tennessee.

Service Records of Confederate Troops from North Carolina show David Tipton, a farmer from Yancey Co., NC., shown 44 years of age, enlisted in the Confederate Army there on Jul 26, 1861. Interestingly, David P. Tipton's brother, Sebron (Seaburn/Seborne) Tipton also enlisted in the Confederate Army at Yancey Co., NC. on Jul 26, 1861. Their brother, Wiburn Tipton, a farmer 32 years of age, from Yancey Co., NC., had earlier enlisted there in the Confederate Army on May 1, 1861.

The David P Tipton, who died @ Bull's Gap, TN., while serving in the Union Army, appears to have been the same David Tipton who'd earlier enlisted in the Confederate Army, at Yancey Co., NC. on Jul 26, 1861. Apparently, David P. Tipton was one of the many Confederate Soldiers who after being captured, had been offered a conditional parole to fight for the Union, in lieu of being interned in a prison camp.
