Lonnie Lee Moore Jr. departed this life on Sunday, October 18, 2009 in a tragic car accident. Lonnie was a Police Officer for the Elizabeth County Police Department, a graduate of Crater Criminal Justice Academy in Waverly, VA; he also received his Basic Law Enforcement Degree at Mitchell Community College in Statesville, N.C.; and graduated from Hillcrest H.S. in Jamaica, New York. Lonnie became a member of the Masonic Brotherhood. His career in the Police Department began at the 113th Precinct in Jamaica, New York and then he moved to Petersburg, VA. He then served as Cheif of Police in Waverly, VA.

When hurricane Floyd hit Virginia I called Lonnie and told him if he could check on my mother who resides in Southhampton County, Virginia. He made some connections with the Sheriffs office in town and they checked on my mother and the sheriff called me in the middle of the night and said that Officer Moore contacted him and and gave him my mother's address and he checked on her that she was just fine. Lonnie was a good man and a great friend he would do whatever he could to lighten his friends burdens.

For all of us that knew Lonnie his memories will always remain "Forever In Our Hearts". You will be missed and you were a very significant part my life.
