Esther E. "Betty" Newswanger, proprietor of Newswanger Luncheon at Leesport and Green Dragon markets, died Monday at Hershey Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Newswanger was 53 and lived at Newmanstown R1. She was the wife of David H. Newswanger.
She operated the market lunch stands for the past 15 years. She was a memher of Fairhaven Mennonite Church, Myerstown.
Born in Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Hettie Ann Weaver Hurst.
Besides her husband, she is survived by the following daughters: Esther, wife of Harlan Martin, Stevens R1; Barbara Ann, wife of Earl K. Martin, Lititz RD; Jane Ruth, wife of Walter F. Gingrich, Newmanstown R1; Joan Marie, wife of Gerald M. Horst, Lititz R1;
Joyce L., wife of Glenn E. Weaver, New Holland R1; Jeanette Eileen,, at home; and one son, David H. Newswanger Jr., Bethel R1; and 11 grandchildren.
She also is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Weaver Hurst, New Holland R1; Earl D. Hurst, Lititz R3; Louis A Hurst, Ephrata; John J. Hurst, Danville R5; Edwin L. Hurst, East earl R1; Ruth, wife of Irvin Weaver, Denver R1; and Mary Jane, wife of Leon G. Stauffer, East Earl R1.
