Jack Duncan takes own life on Sunday

Jack Duncan, young St. Helens business man, shot and killed himself about 8 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of his father, J.B. Duncan, near Warren. Despondency was the cause.

Mr. Duncan, who was 36 years old, was born and grew to manhood in this community. In 1917, at the outbreak of the world war, he enlisted and was in service 18 months. On being discharged he went to Hoquiam, Wash., in the employ of laundry there. He held this position for five years, coming to St. Helens in June 1926., when he with his father purchased the St. Helens Steam Laundry.

Funeral serviced were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the White Chapel. Burial was in the Scappoose cemetery.

Besides his father, Mr. Duncan is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lenore Duncan and infant daughter, four sisters, Mrs. Goldie Campbell of Clatskanie, Mrs. Grace Trachette, Mrs. Clara Snow and Miss Hilda Duncan, three brothers, Lester Duncan and Arch Duncan of St. Helens and Armond Duncan of Juneau, Alaska, who is spending the winter in St. Helens.
