Mrs. Atkinson attended Park Elementary, Horace Mann Junior High, and graduated from North High School in 1934. She attended Emporia State Teachers College, where she received a lifetime teaching degree. She received her bachelor's degree from Wichita State and went on to receive a certificate for Special Education from Emporia State. Her first teaching job was in a small, one room school house in Granola, KS. She taught at Roosevelt Junior High and Mead Junior High, where she retired from in 1980.
