Alma was one of eight children born to John Wesley Swartz and his wife, Lydia Elizabeth Harris. Her siblings were: Elmer, Henry, William, Robert, Leonard, Mary Swartz Weidenhaft and Glen Swartz.

She was married three times...(1) Byron Leisenfeld by whom she had the following four children: Berna, Betty, Gary and Brenda Leisenfeld; (2) Vernon DeLong, no children; (3)Ernest Virus, no children.
