Alma Hayslett Ballard, 87, of Lexington, died Saturday, February 15, 1997, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington. Born in Rockbridge County on December 19, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Charles Dorman Hayslett and Mildred Virginia Clark Hayslett. Mrs. Ballard worked at Roses Department Store for more than 20 years, and was a member of Collierstown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Russell Ballard and Lonnie Vess. Also preceding her in death was one daughter, Lennis Vess Young. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 1997, from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. David Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Collierstown Presbyterian Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Lexington Lifesaving and First Aid Crew or Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. Box 948, Lexington, Va. 24450. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, but the family will receive friends at the residence at any time. Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, is handling the arrangements.
