Dwight Allen Roberts of the Walker community was born September 22, 1924 in Bradley, Oklahoma, to Dave and Minnie (Hawkins) Roberts.

He passed away March 28, 2006 at Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, at the age of 81 years.

Dwight served his country in the Air Force as a pilot. In 1959 he and Kathryn Marie Miller were married in Sulphur, Oklahoma. They lived in the Maysville area for a time and in the 1970s they moved to make the Walker community their home.

He was a farmer and rancher all of his life. He also graduated Magna Cum Laude in Agriculture and for a time was a college professor. Dwight was a member of the Methodist Church.

Dwight was well known by the Walker community as being instrumental in the startup of the Walker Fire Department from drafting the grant applied for through S.O.D.A. to obtaining the land where the Walker Fire Department now stands.

Dwight was the first Fire Chief of the Walker Fire Department and served as a board member. He worked hard at getting the fire department up and running and was recognized by the Walker community with an award in 2001 for his dedication to the Walker community and the Walker Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathryn Marie Roberts on June 5, 2005; and his son, Stephen Edward Roberts on May 29, 2002.

Surviving family include his granddaughter, Stephanie Breeden, and his great-granddaughter, Ashley Breeden, both of the Walker Community; 1 sister, Betty Reynolds of Chickasha; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; and his close friends, Tony and Tawana Jones, as well as the Walker community.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, March 31, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Greenhill Cemetery in Lindsay, officiated by David Johnson.

Interment will be at Greenhill Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
