ARCHIBALD R. MILLEN

A pioneer of Gentry County, was born in Morgan County, Illinois, August 28, 1837. His father's name is John G. Millen, and his mother was formerly Ann Garton. He came with his parents to Missouri in 1854, and settled in Jackson Township, Gentry County, being among the first to settle here. John G. Millen lived for a number of years on the St. Joseph and Albany Stage Route, and kept what was known for some time as the Millen Station, and where the first post office of Jackson Township was located, with John G. Millen as postmaster. Archibald R. was raised on a farm, receiving a common school education, He was married in this county, September 22, 1864, to Miss Mary M. Cranor, daughter of Colonel Manlove Cranor. She was born in Indiana, April 2, 1841, but was raised in Gentry County. He has 640 acres of land, residence being in section 11, township 61, range 32. Mr. And Mrs. Millen have had four children of whom there are three living; William Manlove, born November 17, 1865; John Holt, born February 25, 1868, and Ernest R. , born March 7, 1880. Ella A. was born April 8, 1871 and died August 2, 1880. Mr. And Mrs. M. are member of the Christian Church, and the former belongs to the United Workmen order.
