Again this week, we are called upon to record the death of one of our most respected inhabitants of our little town. Mrs James Langdon was taken ill suddenly Sunday morning with pneumonia from which she died Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. She was in apparent good health Sunday morning and helped prepare dinner for the day. Dr. Palmer was summoned as soon as the symptoms seemed to demand the services of a physician, and he found her suffering with extreme weakness, which increased in spite of all that could be done until the time of her death.
Mrs. Langdon was born in Northwood, N.H., February 4, 1805, and was consequently 83 years, 3 months and 18 days old at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Daniel and Esther (Caswell) Hill of that place, and married to James F. Langdon, the mountain stage owner and driver, who as "Uncle Jimmy" was well-known throughout the state, in October 1827.
Mrs. Langdon, with her husband, moved to Plymouth in 1847, where she has resided most of the time since. She was a woman of the highest character, a most exemplary housewife and endowed with unusual business and executive ability and all who enjoyed her acquaintance were her friends. Her death is a severe shock and loss to the community. Her funeral took place Friday and she was laid to rest beside her husband in Holderness cemetery, who preceded her to the land beyond about a year ago. >The Plymouth Record, May 26, 1888, p5.
In the Plymouth Town Reports Rhoda's age at death was miscalculated.
