Joy, Civil was veteran and former chairman of the Sangamon county board of supervisors, who died at his home, 531 West Lawrence avenue, Friday morning, will be held at 1 o'clock this afternoon at the residence, Rev. C. S. Boyd officiating, and at 2:30 o'clock at the Loami M. E. church, Rev. Mr. Eldridge officiating. Interment will be made in Loami cemetery.

My. Joy died at the age of 80 years. He was a member of the board of supervisors from 1891 to 1903 and for three years was chairman of the board. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Barbara Joy; one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Nipper of Loami; one son, W. A. Joy, 536 South Grand avenue, east; one step-daughter, Mrs. L. R. Carter, 306 South Grand avenue, east; one brother, James M. Joy of Waverly; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Joy was born in Cabell county, West Virginia, and came to Loami when he was 14 years old. Since 1857 he had been a resident of Sangamon county. When the Civil was started, he enlisted with Company I, Seventy-third Illinois infantry, and served throughout the greater part of the war. He took part in many of the major engagements and was wounded during the battle of Mission Ridge.

After the war, he returned to Loami, where he was united in marriage, Nov. 2, 1865, with Miss Sarah J. Baker, a native of Sangamon county. The couple moved to a farm near Loami, which they operated until 1891, when they moved into Loami. To this union were born three children, Charles W., deceased, Mrs. J. W. Nipper and W. A. Joy.

It was while Mr. Joy resided in Loami that he was elected to the board of supervisors. He served on a number of important committees and was a member of the building committee of the county board at the time the court house was rebuilt. He also was assessor two terms and a delegate to the county and state conventions of the Republican party. He served on the Republican county central committee and was treasurer of his village. He was a member of the Modern Woodman and the G. A. R.

His first wife died Dec. 28, 1919, and he married Sept. 20, 1921, Mrs. Mary Barbara, who now survives him.
