Peter Gunnlaugson was the son of Gunnlauger Jonsson/Johnson and Marie Einarson/Einarsdottir. He was born and baptized on August 12, 1847 in Hofteigur I Jokuldal, Nordur-Mulasysla, Iceland. His siblings included John Gunnlaugson (also buried in this cemetery) and Anna Kristun born June 12, 1849 in Iceland.

Peter settled on Washington Iceland in 1873.

In June 1876 he wed Magnina Magnusson/Magnusdottir who also had been born in Iceland in 1849. As his obituary included on this page indicates there were twelve children born of this union. Ten are listed below. Family records indicate the other two children lost in infancy were Gertrude and Oscar.
