Services were Friday, Dec. 12 at Coker Funeral Chapel in Decatur for Newell Wayne Adams, 69, of Decatur. The Rev. L.A. Whatley officiated with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 1.
Pallbearers were Coke Gage, Gar McKinney, James Petty, Eugene "Bill" Freeman, Audie Phillips and Harold Burns.
Adams died Thursday in Westgate Hospital in Denton. He was born May 1, 1911 in Watervalley Miss. He married Margaret I. Parish, Feb. 10, 1945. He had lived in Texas since 1932 and in Wise County since 1956. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the Coast Guard.
The former manufacturing company inspector was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 10374.
Other survivors include: sons, Donald W. Adams of Joshua, Ronald F. Adams of Bridgeport and Connie L. and Lonnie C. Adams of Fort Worth; daughter, Rebecca L. Sheffield of Denton; brothers James O. Adams of Missouri and J.C. Adams of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sisters Mrs. George Crawford of Davis, Okla., and Mrs. Audie Woodard of West Sacramento, Calif.; and 14 grandchildren.
