In 1860, John B. Fetrow or Fettrow, as he is buried, was a carpenter presumably living in Manchester Township, York County. He also worked as a mason. He stood 5' 8" tall and had sandy hair and blue eyes. He was the husband of Sevilla Wire Fetrow, whom he married October 20, 1881, in York.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg August 24, 1864, with Co. B, 200th Pa Inf, serving at the rank of private until honorably discharged May 30, 1865.
