RICHMOND - Lyman Earl Martineau, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, returned to his Heavenly Father on April 18, 2002. He died peacefully at home.

Lyman was born November 20, 1906, in Benson, Utah. He was the son of Nephi and Emmeline Pamela Knowles Martineau. In his youth, his family moved to St. Anthony, Idaho where he grew up and was educated. He married Melna Humphreys June 10, 1937, in the Logan Temple.

His work took him and his family to Yakima, Washington, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Soda Springs, Idaho. He worked many years as a machinist. Even after he retired in 1975, he kept busy helping others. He spend his later years designing and constructing a saw mill. This hobby kept him active and brought him much joy.

Lyman and Melna loved dancing and served for years as stake dance and also taught dancing in schools. He and Melna served in the Oregon, Portland mission. He was always active in the church and served as an Elder, Seventy, High Priest, and a home teacher.

He is survived by: his wife, Melna; daughter, Mollyanne (Clifford) Hopkins, Richmond; and sons, Dean (Marla) Martineau, Smithfield; and Kirby (Judy) Martineau, Orange, California; fifteen grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Anita Schwendiman of Rexburg, Idaho, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, seven sisters, and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 23 at 12 noon in the Richmond LDS 4th Ward chapel at 150 S. 100 E. Friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Monday evening, April 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 34 E. Center in Logan or at the church from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Internment at the Logan Cemetery.

Lyman's greatest joy in life was his family. He often bore his testimony to his family and shared his great love for them. Each family member felt his love and knew they were important to him. He was an example of gentleness, love, industry, positive attitude, and perseverance. He loved his Savior and served him and others faithfully to the end. We love you, Dad, and appreciate the standard you have set for us.
