Mons came to America with his parents in 1858 and settled in Red Wing, Goodhue Co, Minnesota. In May 15 1869 he started a mercantile business under the name of "Monson and Lindholm. In 1871 he became the sole proprietor. In the Spring of 1873 a post office was established and he became the postmaster general.
