MELVIN E. SHEARBURN

Melvin E. Shearburn, 80, died Monday, July 15, 1985, at his home in Bronaugh after an illness of several months.

Born July 28, 1904, in Palmyra, Ill., he was the son of Elmer Yates and Maggie Jean Miller Shearburn. He was married Dec. 17, 1917, in Oswego, Kan., to Lee Earl Thompson. He was a member of the Bronaugh Christian Church and the Bronaugh Lions Club. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge at Bronaugh during the late 1920s and early 1930s. He started Boy Scout Troop 104 in Bronaugh and served as Scoutmaster for several years. He was a bus driver for Bronaugh R-VII School System and did janitor work in the school. He worked for the Ellis Coal Company for several years during the 1930s. He had also worked at Nevada State School and Hospital. He was a Star Route mail carrier, starting in Nevada and serving at Lamar, Mindenmines, Iantha, Drexel, Moundville and Bronaugh.

Survivors include: his wife, Lee Earl, of the home; two sons, DeVon Shearburn, El Dorado, Kan., and Gary Dean Shearburn, Nevada; two daughters, Gayle Cooper, Sedalia, and Karin Haverstic, Moundville; a brother, Marvin E. Shearburn, Bronaugh, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 1985, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Scott Weber officiating. Interment will be in Worsley Cemetery, Bronaught (sic).

Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 1985, at the funeral home, where friends may call now and until the hour of service.

The family suggests memorials to the Bronaugh Baseball Park or the Bronaugh Christian Church building fund.
