Sylvester "Syl" Hornick, 87, of Comfrey, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at his home in Mulligan Township.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Comfrey with burial in St. Raphael's Catholic Cemetery, Springfield.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey. A parish prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Survivors are his daughter, Marcia Weber of Comfrey; four grandsons; sisters, Lucille Sellner of Sleepy Eye and Celestine Soupir of Wimbledon, N.D.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Catherine; brothers, Bernard, Thomas. Clarence, Albert, and Ambrose; and sister, Helen Mathiowetz.
He was born May 8, 1914, in Mulligan Township, Brown County, to Anton and Sophie (Meidl) Hornick. He attended District 70 country school in Mulligan Township. He did farm work in Brown County. He married Catherine Sophie Fecker on April,10 1939, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Comfrey. The couple lived in Sleepy Eye until 1941, then in the Darfur area until buying their farm in 1943. In 1950 he was Brown County Conservation Farmer of the Year. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Comfrey.
