Taylorsville, Nov. 4.--- Funeral service for Mr. George W. Bowman, who died Wednesday morning at 11:15 o'clock at the City Memorial Hospital, Hickory, was held from Friendship Lutheran Church, six miles south of town, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. L.P.Boland, the pastor, conducted the service. Interment was in the church cemetery. Mr. Bowman was a son the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Bowman, of Wittenburg township, and was 86 years of age. He had been ill with cancer for the past year. Mr. Bowman lived about eight miles south of town in Wittenburg township.
Surviving are seven sons, Messrs. Truey, Ransom, and Melvin Bowman of Asheville, Gaither of Waynesville, Odell, Grafton and Bruce, of the county; Six daughters, Mrs. George Hallman, Mrs. Harve Little, Mrs. Miles Tutterroe, Mrs. Cecil Reece, of Hickory, Mrs. Clary Fox, county, and Miss Cora Belle Bowman, at home; one step-son, Mr. Clyde Bowman, of Philadelphia, and two brothers, Messrs. Calvin and Jason Bowman, of the county.

George Bowman's third wife was Destie Smith. He was 55 and she was 35 when they married in October 1928. They were divorced soon after as she is not listed on the 1930 Census. There are no children from that union.
