Green Mitchell and Louisa Melton appear in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census of Twiggs County with their children. In 1880 the couple had eight children. In 1850 Green M. Obituary, Macon Telegraph, 1889-02-23
Death of a Farmer.
Information was brought to the city yesterday of the death from pneumonia of Mr. G. M. Melton, a farmer living in Twiggs county, but formerly of Bibb . Mr. Melton was 60 years of age, leaving a wife and large family to mourn his loss. He was a staunch, reliable farmer and had a number of friends in Macon, who learn of his death with sincere regret.
.
It is possible that Green Melton served in the Mexican War. A service record of "Green Melton" (b. 1827) on Fold 3 shows that he enlisted 5 October 1847 in Nashville, Tennessee in Company F, 3rd Tennessee Infantry and served until 22 July 1848 when he was mustered out at Memphis, Tennessee. His enlistment in Nashville, Tennessee is a mystery and thus the information cannot be confirmed.
