Brandon Lee Whitehurst

Brandon Lee Whitehurst, 35, of Antioch, Calif., and formerly of Vacaville, Calif., passed away at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose, Calif. He was born June 21, 1974, in Olney, Ill., the son of Dennis and Susan (Cummins) Whitehurst. He married Jennifer Edie on Sept. 7, 2008, in St. Louis.

He received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1997 and a master's degree in 2004 from San Jose State University. After graduation, he worked for Mendoza and Associates in San Francisco and most recently was a senior civil engineer for AECOM in Oakland, Calif. Brandon was a registered professional engineer in California and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He loved engineering and was a mentor and master of his profession. He gave and expected perfection out of every project in which he was involved. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Germany, working on cars, hiking, biking, running and he loved the St. Louis Cardinals. He was taken too soon while doing what he loved.

Brandon is survived by his wife, Jennifer Whitehurst of Antioch; parents, Dennis Whitehurst of Vallejo and Susan (Cummins) Whitehurst of Vacaville; sister, Shana Whitehurst of Sacramento; grandparents, Arlene Whitehurst of Terre Haute, Ind., and Robert and Jean Cummins of Newton, Ill.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, in-laws and his beloved dog, Baxter. He was preceded in death by grandfather, Glenn Whitehurst; and aunts, Nancy Bigard and Karen Fink.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 12, 2009, in Newton, Ill., with interment at Westlawn Cemetery, Newton, Ill.

Memorial services will be held at The Gardens at Heather Farm, 1540 Marchbanks Drive, Walnut Creek, Calif., on Nov. 1 at 2 p.m.
