Bill attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Joliet and was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School, Class of 1955.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Bill was a retired Pipefitter with Union Local #422. He was a member of V.F.W. Stone City Post #35; the F & A M, Marquette Consistory Chapter #104, Ruth Chapter #9 O.E.S.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy Abernathy; loving children, James W. Abernathy, Phyllis Abernathy both of Joliet and Dionne (Kendall) Davis of Ofallon, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchild-ren; his brother, Keith (Christina) Abernathy of Germany; four sisters, Melody (Carnell) Robertson, Judy Miller and Adrianne Scates all of Joliet and Denise Abernathy of Columbus, Ohio; his mother, Esther Abernathy of Joliet; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends also survive.
Preceded in death by his father; and granddaughter.
Funeral Services will be Friday, February 2, 2007, 11:00 A.M. at Shiloh Baptist Church Rev. Richard House, officiating. Visitation Thursday, February 1, 2007, 2-5 P.M. and 7-9 P.M. at Range Funeral Home and Friday, February 2, 2007, 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Shiloh with Masonic Services at 10:00 A.M.
Interment and military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
