Mrs. Martha M. Lyons was born in George county Ohio on December 27, 1832 and died September 5, 1911 aged 78 years 8 months and 9 days. She removed from Ohio in 1830 to Urbana, Ill where she attended high school for some time. She became a teacher in 1852 and taught 4 terms viz one each at Mahomet, Waugh, Pancakes Points and Salem schools. She was married to Samuel H. Lyons February 4, 1856. To this union there were born 4 children, William H., Wyman H. and Dwight S. Lyons, also Laura H Staver [Stover], all of whom are living with the exception of Wyman H. who died at the age of 10 years. Mrs. Lyons lost her husband, Samuel H. Lyons, by death on August 2, 1888 since which time she has resided with her son William B. Lyons until the time of her death. Mrs. Lyons united with the Baptist church at Mahomet about 1868 of which she has been a member until the present time. She was an industrious woman, a good neighbor and a kind mother and one will be greatly missed by all those who had the good fortune to claim her friendship.
