Mary Louise "Lou" Farris Oates Holcombe, 72, of 114 Beacon St. Swannanoa, passed away Saturday, February 17, 1996 in a Canton health care center.
A native of Knoxville TN, she had lived most of her life in Swannanoa, where she worked and retired from Beacon in 1984 after 40 years of service. She was the daughter of the late Cecil Vernon and Ethel Rogers Weaver and the wife of John S. Oates who passed on October 7, 1976, and Horace P. Holcombe who passed on July 9, 1983.
Surviving are her daughters Mary Lou Ollis of Newland, N.C., Nancy Shetley of Daytona Beach, Fla., Linda Branch and Vickie Greene, both of Swannanoa. She is also survived by three sons. Wayne Oates of Canton, N.C., John Larry Oates of Ft. Worth, TX, and Russell "Cooter" Oates of Swannanoa, and step-son Jackie Holcombe of Swannanoa; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. James Lamb officiating. She will be laid to rest in Mountain View Memorial Park beside her first husband and father of her children, John S. Oates.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. before the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Vickie Greene in Swannanoa.
