Dr Russell Alexander
Retired Dentist Expires Sunday

Dr. Russell G. Alexander, 77, of 1623 Lake-dr, Coldwater-lake, retired dentist and Coldwater area resident for the past 50 years, died at 2:35 a.m. Sunday at the Health Center where he had been a patient for three weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Putnam funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Cooper, rector of St. Thomas Episcopal church of Battle Creek, in charge. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.

Dr. Alexander was born Feb. 21, 1899, in Clinton, the son of Joseph and Emily (Glover) Alexander. He was a World War I veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1917 to 1919 as a second lieutenant, being the youngest commissioned officer in the army.

He was graduated from the University of Michigan dental school in 1924 on on Aug. 2 of that year, was married to Emily H. Beutler.

Dr. Alexander served the State of Michigan as dental inspector for correctional institutions and moved to Coldwater in 1925 to open a private dental practice which he operated until 1951. From then until retiring in 1964, he did the dental work for Coldwater State Home and Training School.

He was a member of Tyre Lodge No. 18, F&AM, Coldwater Elks Lodge No. 1023, the Michigan and American Dental associations, and American Legion Post No. 52. He was a charter and life member of Coldwater Country club and a former member of Coldwater Rotary club.

Survivors include his wife, Emily; three sons, Russell D. Alexander of Madison Heights, Robert N. Alexander of Madison Wis., and Benson Alexander of Port Huron; one sister, Mrs. Otto (Susie) Meader of Holiday, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and one niece.
