Sonny first married Janet Louise Susott on 17 Dec 1955 in Atlanta, Georgia at the home of the bride's parents. They divorced in 1964. A daughter survives.
He then married Veronica Mae Healey: in 1966 in Okaloosa, Florida. A son survives.
At the age of 46, on 20 Oct 1978, Sonny Davis died in an airplane crash due to mechanical failure.
His hobbies were model building and photography.
