Confederate Veteran (Texas Regiment Unknown)

Thomas Pinckney Murray was the son of William Pinckney Murray (1810-1871) and Elizabeth Adeline Byers (1820-1850). His parents were both born in North Carolina and married at Murrayville, May 10, 1839. Thomas moved to Texas in 1853, along with his father and step-mother Margaret Elizabeth (White) Murray (1827-1868). Thomas claimed to have served with the Texas Confederate forces during the War Between the States (1861-65), but his regiment and service dates have not been confirmed. After the war he returned to Texas where about 1867 he married Katherine Williams (born 1847 in Texas). His son, George William Pinckney Murray, was born there June 6, 1870. Thomas remained in Texas until at least 1887, at which time he relocated to New Mexico where he remained until at least 1901. Returning again to Texas, he filed for a Confederate veteran's pension at San Antonio March 30, 1909, but supporting documentation substantiating his claim could not be found, so the pension comptroller wrote on the application "not on rolls." Thomas and Katherine were living in El Paso in 1910. Thomas moved to Cochise County, Arizona, sometime thereafter, where he remained until he died.
