Obituary Of John Julius Swaim

John Julius Swaim, son of Bennet and Susan Swaim, was born in Forsythe County, North Carolina, February 25, 1840. While a very young child he moved to Indiana with his parents, staying there a few years, and from there they went to Illinois, staying until he was nearly 21 years of age, when coming to Iowa. He resided on a farm near Vinton for a while, but has been a respected citizen of Vinton for nearly 32 years. In early life he united with the Wesleyan Church, but a year or two ago took membership with the U. B. Church of this city, of which he has been a faithful member ever since.
He was united in marriage Feb. 27, 1868, to Elizabeth Torrence of near Brandon and to this union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. The others are, Adie Imler of Vinton, Amanda Romann of Jesup, Will Swaim and Dora Bassett of Mt. Auburn, Olen who lived at home. His wife died in 1881 and two years later he was united in marriage to Mary Waters who is left to mourn his death. To this union were born two children, George, who died six years ago and Luella Ludden of Vinton. He was the last of a family of seven children to pass away, his oldest brother having been buried just the day before Mr. Swaim passed away. He was a good husband and father and will be greatly missed by his friends.
