AUSTIN THOMAS TUTTLE

Austin Thomas Tuttle , 79, formerly of 7618 Summerfield Road, Summerfield, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Well Spring Retirement Community, Greensboro.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Summerfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kelley Groce officiating. Burial will be at Summerfield United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Tuttle was born in Guilford County May 22, 1924, to the late Thomas Fountain Tuttle and Primmie Lee Allen Tuttle . Mr. Tuttle served in the U.S. Navy, attended Guilford College, was the owner and operator of Tuttles Super Market in Summerfield for 17 years, and was retired from the Guilford County Sheriffs Department. Mr. Tuttle was a member of Summerfield United Methodist Church, the Civitan Club and the Sheriffs Association. His other interest include fishing, hunting, bird watching, his friends and his family. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Norma Ada Parker Tuttle ; a granddaughter, Stephanie Sherrill McCanless; his twin brother, Andrew Frye Tuttle ; brothers, Porter Tuttle , William Tuttle ; sisters, Vela Friddle, Hazel Albert and Maureen Pringle.

Mr. Tuttle is survived by his daughters, Karen Tuttle McCanless (Dan) of Greensboro, Jane Tuttle of Marietta, Ga., and Donna Tuttle Smith (Richard, III) of Blacklick, Ohio; grandchildren, Molly Parker Smith and Richard G. Smith, IV, both of Blacklick, Ohio, Meredith Austin McCanless of Greensboro.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home and other times at the home of the daughter, Karen McCanless, 6206 Muirfield Dr., Greensboro.
