Hugh "Pat" Murphy died at the age of 52 in 1953. He had been a hot metalman, welder, factory worker and foreman and had worked nearly 31 years at the Haynes Stellite Co., beginning in 1922.
While repairing some equipment at the forge shop, he received an electrical shock from a short circuited line which contributed to his death from cerebral thrombosis and other circulatory problems.
Two years earlier he had lost months of work from a cerebral hemorrage.
He was a member of the South Side Christian Church, the Foremen's Club and the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity.
Following funeral services at his church, burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
