"Walter Evans came from Maryland and settled at Summit Station in Nicholas County, KY, where it was not safe for settlers to reside except when banded together for mutual protection. When the Indians made an attack upon Summit Station, Walter Evans was one of the party who followed them to the Ohio River, where they discovered them in the act of crossing the river in their canoes". He died in Harrison Co., KY, June 20, 1846, aged 80 years.
