Barbara Loraine Colson Schuler Smith of Reno, NV, and formerly of Longmont, CO, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on September 17, 2009 at her home in Reno following a battle with cancer. She was born to Loren and Emma Mae Jones Colson in Imperial, NE, on November 18, 1940, and grew up on a farm near Lamar, NE.
Barbara married Leland Schuler of Momence, IL, on February 23, 1963, in Lincoln, NE, and they had one son, Michael Schuler. They lived most of their married life in Boulder, CO. Mr. Schuler passed away on October 9, 1984. She later married Stanley Smith of Lamar, NE, on July 31, 1995, and he passed away on September 11, 1996.
Having a close relationship with Jesus Christ and living a Christian life were a priority in Barbara's life. She was affiliated with Reno Christian Fellowship at the time of her death. Her professional career involved various office positions and her most enjoyable working years were spent at Boulder Valley Christian Church in Boulder, CO, and LifeBridge Christian Church in Longmont, CO.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Loren Colson, and husbands, Leland Schuler and Stanley Smith. She is survived by her mother, Emma Mae Colson, of Imperial, NE; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Elizabeth Schuler of Reno, NV; her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Elaine Colson of Imperial, NE; her mother-in-law, Darlene Schuler of Kankakee, IL; and many other members of the Colson, Schuler, Smith, and VanOene/Mares families. Many friends and family members were important in her life including Elizabeth Schuler's parents, Charles and Janis Monroe of Reno, NV.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday September 22, at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel 326 Terry St. Longmont, CO 80501. Funeral service 11:00 AM Wednesday September 23, at LifeBridge Christian Church 10345 Ute Hwy Longmont, CO 80504. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder, CO
