OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Edward J. "Bud" Schmidt, age 88, resident of Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Brainerd, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008. He was born April 26, 1920, in Chicago to Edward and Willamina (Seyferth) Schmidt.

Bud was employed by Potlatch Corporation for 40 years, a member and past president of the Union Local 79, a resident of Brainerd for 51 years and a little league coach for 17 years (Bronco League). He had been a Missouri resident since 1989, moving to Kansas in 2007.

Survived by nieces, Bernadette (Meyers) McDevitt and Patricia (Walsh) Rawlings; nephews, Robert Meyers, Steven Walsh and Hank Nelson; eight great-nephews; seven great-nieces and many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Barbara Meyers, Marguerite Walsh and Lucile Nelson.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Visitation times are Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday. A memorial to Brainerd Parks and Rec is requested in lieu of flowers.
