Marion Colie Pope, son of Joel Francis and Clara Ann Rebecca (Pruett) Pope, was born 28 Oct 1890 in Nanafalia, Marengo, Alabama. He died on 14 Dec 1976 in Thomasville, Clarke, Alabama and was laid to his final rest in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Dixons Mills, Marengo, Alabama.

U.S. Federal Census and other records indicate that Marion lived in Marengo County, Alabama between 1890 and 1910, primarily in the Hills and Pineville. His WWI Draft Registration Card indicates that he lived in Pine Hill, Wilcox, Alabama - an area that was considered Marengo during the taking of federal census.

From 1920 to 1942, Marion moved back and forth between living in Phenix City, Lee, Alabama and living in Columbus, Muscogee, Georgia. There is also record of him living in Montgomery, Alabama in 1923.

Records indicate that beginning in about 1917 Marion worked in the cotton mills of Atlanta and Muscogee, Georgia. His job descriptions appear, from 1917 to 1930, as cotton mill worker, weaver, mill operator, and mill hand. In 1940 his job description was noted in the federal census as "Peddler".

Marion married Adeline May Hill (1897-1928) on 16 Mar 1913 in Marengo, Alabama. They were together until Adeline's death in 1928. Marion and Adeline had issue: Marion Colie Pope, Jr. (1916-1994), Milton H. Pope (1917-1920), and Windell Douglas Pope (1920-1973). Marion and Adeline were great grandparents of Adm. Roy D. Pope, Jr., ALNM.
