Myrtle A. Freer, 94, Cooperstown, ND and formerly Hannaford, ND, passed away on October 13, 2008 at the Cooperstown Medical Center-Nursing Home, Cooperstown, ND.

Myrtle Alvina Bakken was born on April, 9 1914 in Hannaford, North Dakota, the daughter of Markus and Anna (Sabbe) Bakken. She grew up in Hannaford and graduated from Hannaford High School. She attended teacher's college in Valley City and taught at various rural country schools.

Myrtle was united in marriage to Claude Freer on September 20, 1937. They made their home in the Walum and Hannaford area until moving to the Cooperstown Medical Center Nursing Home in November of 2006.

She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hannaford where she was an avid quilter. She loved baking and excelled at lefse. She was a devoted Twins fan and loved playing cards and various games with her friends and family as she learned to play double-deck pinochle at the age of 92 with her nursing home friends.

Myrtle is survived by her husband, Claude, of 71 years, Cooperstown, North Dakota; two daughters, Carole (Don) McKinney of Irvine, California, and Claudia (Jim) Jacobsen, of Luverne, North Dakota; three grandchildren, Darcey (Don) Kosolofski, Hope, North Dakota; Clay (Jessica) Jacobsen, Luverne, North Dakota; Greg (Ruby) McKinney, Irvine, California; and six great-grandchildren; Brady, Mara, Kada, Greg, Jr., Lee, and Kennedy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arthur and John; and one sister, Thelma.

Visitation will be at 10:00 am on Friday, October 17, 2008 at Faith Lutheran Church, Hannaford, ND with a Celebration of her life to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Faith Cemetery, Hannaford, ND.
