Alba R. Bump was born 24 Jan. 1847 to John Orville Bump & Cynthia Sophronia Reynolds Bump. Alba was born almost a year after his family moved from St. Lawrence Co., New York to Rock Co. Wisc., where he was born. In 1848 the J.O. Bump family moved to a 40 acre farm located in Section 8 of Decatur Township, Green Co. Wisc. where they lived until the Spring of 1864,a year after Alba's death, when the remaining family moved to Ellis Township, Hardin Co., Iowa.
On 19 Dec. 1861, at the age of 14 years 11 months, Alba enlisted in Company M, Wisconsin 2nd Cavalry Regiment as a Private. Alba's Company fought at Yellville, Ar. in Jan. 1862 and at Delta, MS Aug 1862.
Alba was discharged "disabled" 30 Sept. 1862 and died 6 months later at the age of 16 years 2 months.
Alba was survived by his parents John Orville and Sophronia Bump and siblings Sarah, Mildred, Maria, Zenas, Clara and Milton.
Alba R. Bump is buried in the GAP Cemetery, Decatur Twp., Green County, Wisc. It is believed that his grandfather Zenas Bump is buried next to Alba the GAP Cemetery, in an unmarked grave.
