Alfred "Bud" Ruben Fairbairn

Alfred "Bud" Ruben Fairbairn, 75, passed away at Hylond Convalescent Hospital on July 15, 2005 where he resided for 3 1/2 years. He was born in Wasco, California on October 31, 1929 and has lived in Merced for the past 50 years. He co-owned RBJ Transport, Inc. in Merced and became the sole owner of the company in 1992. The company was established in 1979 and operated until 1997.

Mr. Fairbairn was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a US Navy veteran who served during the Korean Conflict as a gunner on the USS Point Cruise. He was honorably discharged on July 22, 1954, exactly 51 years from the date of his funeral services. He also loved to take his children and granddaughters to the zoo and was always good for "slurpees" during these outings.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife; Ann Marie who passed away on February 19, 2004. They met on a blind date in Watts, California while she worked for the telephone company and were married 6 months later on March 18, 1955. They would have been married 50 years. She was the owner and operator of the Weed Patch Floral from 1981 to October 2003. The Weed Patch Floral was later re-opened and is operated by Vicki and Rhonda.

Bud is survived by his son, Fredrick C. Fairbairn of Merced, his daughter, Vicki A. Prothro and her husband Tim of Merced, four granddaughters, Rhonda, Michelle, Barbara and Samantha Prothro, all of Merced and his best friend CJ, his beloved puppy and two sisters, Beverly Fairbairn and Marilyn Ramsey, both of Redding.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, July 21, 2005 in Evergreen Funeral Home, 1480 'B' Street, Merced Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, July 22, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2916 McKee, Merced. Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Home, 1480 "B" Street, Merced, California.
