Chester enlisted in the Army at Ft. Slocum, NY served in France during WWI. He was Honorably Discharged as a Corporal at Ft. Devens in Ayer, Ma. July 10, 1919.
He had been a delivery person for Sears Roebuck in Cambridge, Ma. at the time of enlistment.

He was a papermaker for the Gilman Paper Co. of Gilman, Vt, Machineist for Corbin Screw and Lock Co. of New Britain, Ct., and a Turret Lathe Operator for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in East Springfield, Ma.. He retired from Westinghouse in 1960.

While working in Springfield he purchased a vacant Baptist Church in North Sunderland,Ma. and converted it into a home.
